Welcome to My Big Sky Life!
It’s taken nearly everything in me to muster up the courage to start this blog, but I’ve finally come to the conclusion that writing is something I’m meant to do. So, here I am, putting myself out there and doing just that.
If you’ve stumbled onto this page, you may be wondering, “What’s this all about?”
And to that, I say:
My Big Sky Life is where I’ll share the three most important pillars of my life — Food, Travel, and Lifestyle.
I’m a professional writer and communicator. Take that as you will, but I do have the credentials to back it up. I studied journalism and communications in college, worked for newspapers, and continue to work in the corporate space as a communications professional.
Every day, I write other people’s stories — and it’s something I love doing. But here, this is where I get to tell my own story.
I’ll never forget my high school AP Language teacher who once told me, “Abby, you’re a decent writer when given a school assignment, but where you shine is when you write about the things you love.”
I don’t know if he’ll ever realize what that single sentence meant to me, but it’s why I’m starting this today. His words have been echoing in my mind, circling like a flock of birds searching for a place to land.
And now… they’ve landed. And so have I.
I’ve migrated to the great state of Montana, a place with a pace that’s worlds apart from the busy life l had in Massachusetts these past few years. Yet it also feels comfortingly familiar, like the slower, more grounded rhythm I knew growing up on my family’s horse farm. My brother is to thank for the turn of events that brought me here. He introduced me to his former Navy roommate and, by a twist of fate, we fell for each other. That led me to take a leap — one that carried me two thousand miles across the country.
Some may call that crazy, but I call it embracing life with love.
And while love isn’t one of my “official” top three pillars, it’s actually at the center of them all.
Love is why we make a homecooked meal, why we travel to places we’ve never been, and why we turn our homes into cozy spaces filled with joy.
What’s Coming Next
In the weeks ahead, I’ll be sharing a chowder recipe that proves living in a landlocked state doesn’t mean giving up great seafood. The star of the show? Wild-caught Alaskan salmon — brought back by a Montana fisherman after a trip north. It’s rustic, hearty, and perfect for an end-of-summer evening when the air starts to turn crisp.
I’ll also be posting a weekend itinerary for exploring Yellowstone National Park (including a few spots the guidebooks don’t tell you about) and a highlight of the Montana State Fair — the rides, the food, and the small-town magic that makes it a summer must.
So I leave you with this: lead with love. It’s what brought me to write this, and it’s what will keep me writing in the days, months, and years to come.
I’m so excited to share my glimpse of life out West — to invite you into my kitchen, my travels, my lifestyle, and my thoughts.
With love,
Abby Paige
