I’m in my late 20s, but it honestly feels like I’ve lived about five lives already.

My childhood? Straight out of a Hallmark movie. I grew up on a 100-plus acre horse farm in Southeastern Massachusetts. My parents raised horses and harvested cranberries for Ocean Spray (so yes — when you open your can of cranberry jelly at Thanksgiving, think of me).

Most days were filled with horseback riding, ATV-ing, hanging out with my huge family, and gathering around the dinner table for conversations that could stretch for hours. I look back and think, that was about as close to heaven as you can get.

My family gave me the best foundation: a love of community, connection, curiosity — and the confidence to chase my dreams. So when I said, “I want to be a writer,” they didn’t bat an eye. They just said, “Go for it.” And I did.

At 16, I submitted my first story to my local newspaper — about a couple who swapped cold New England winters for a sunny business in Hawaii. The editors never responded… so I kept bugging them. “Do you want me to take a different angle? Should I rewrite it?”

Eventually, word got to the managing editor, who was either impressed by my drive or just tired of hearing from me. Either way, he brought me on as a newsroom clerk — even though I had just earned my driver’s license.

I spent my days downloading Dear Abby, horoscopes, and comics… but I made sure everyone knew I was more than a clerk. I was a writer.

One freezing Saturday morning, I got my first real assignment. I poured everything into it, turning what could’ve been a standard community event piece into something with heart. From there, I went from clerk to full-fledged reporter, working in the newsroom every day after school until graduation.

These days, my life in Montana is a mix of remote work, recipe testing that nods to my New England roots, weekend road trips across the West, and slow, quiet moments at home.
